You want to open your maps, reply to a message and get on with your day. “Free unlimited mobile data” sounds like the answer. The useful question is: unlimited for what?
Can you get unlimited mobile data for free? Some services offer ongoing free access without a data cap, but restrict where or how you use it. Others give you a limited allowance you can earn again. Neither automatically means unlimited, full-speed internet for every app on your phone. Check the amount, speed, supported apps and conditions before choosing.
Free and unlimited are two different promises
Free tells you about the price. Unlimited should tell you about the allowance. Neither word, on its own, tells you whether you can stream a film, share a connection with your laptop or use the service abroad.
A free connection can still be useful without replacing your whole mobile plan. If you mainly need directions and messages between Wi-Fi stops, your decision will look different from someone who needs video calls all afternoon.

Five limits to check behind the word “unlimited”
1. How much data can you actually use?
Look for three separate numbers: how much data you receive, how much you can keep, and how much you can earn over a day. Being able to earn more tomorrow does not make today's allowance unlimited.
For example, Firsty Free currently describes an ad-earned balance: 20 MB per advert, up to 240 MB saved at once, and up to 360 MB earned over 24 hours. Those are defined limits, not unrestricted data. Its paid Unlimited plan is a different product.
Check what happens at the limit. Does the connection stop, can you earn more, or do you need to wait? That answer matters more than the headline.
2. Does the speed fit what you want to do?
Data allowance and speed are not the same thing. One tells you how much you can use; the other affects how quickly things load. An offer can keep you connected while making large downloads impractical.
Firsty lists its Free plan at up to 1 Mbps. Treat “up to” as a limit, not a speed you are guaranteed to receive. For any plan, check whether a fair-use rule lowers the speed after a certain amount of data.
Before relying on a free connection for work, test the task that matters: opening a document, joining a call or sending a file. A successful message is not proof that a long video meeting will work well.
3. Does it work in your usual apps?
Free internet inside one app is different from a data connection for all your apps. If you leave that app, the same free access may not follow you.
Kite's support page gives a clear example: it describes free data without a balance cap, but access stays inside Kite. It currently works in the United States, and it is not designed for streaming or large downloads. That is not the same as unrestricted data for every native app on your phone.
Think about your actual routine. Can you open your normal messaging app, or must you use a website inside the provider's app? Can your navigation app connect outside that browser? Check those details before making it your only connection.
4. Is it ongoing, or just a trial?
A trial may be free today and end after its allowance or trial period. An ongoing free tier may let you return for more data, with actions such as watching adverts or completing surveys.

Also separate expiry from quantity. Data that does not expire can still run out when you use it. Keeping an eSIM installed does not, by itself, give you an endless supply of data.
5. Can you use it where and how you need?
Check both signup eligibility and coverage. Being allowed to create an account does not mean the free plan works in every destination. Check the free tier itself rather than relying on the provider's overall coverage headline.

You do not need the biggest claim. You need a connection that handles the job in front of you.

If you just need a connection occasionally, a limited allowance that works in the right apps can be more useful than an unlimited claim with restrictions that get in your way.
